The Vuelta a Espana has so far been riddled with crashes, everyday a few riders go down and abandons have been ongoing since day one. This morning the race will start without Kobe Goossens who hasn't been able to recover from a crash suffered earlier in the race.
The Belgian was involved in the crash yesterday which also took out Bryan Coquard, Santiago Buitrago and Wilco Kelderman. Goossens was the last rider to cross the finish line, over 12 minutes down on the peloton. "The wound to my knee is too deep," he said in a video shared by Intermarché-Circus-Wanty. "I’m mentally out, sometimes cycling is cruel. I’m going home to recover. I wish the team all the best, they will do good."
