Kasper Asgreen’s time at
EF Education-EasyPost hasn’t had
the smoothest of starts. The Danish rider, who famously won the 2021 Tour of
Flanders, joined the American team for the 2025 season but has found himself
far from his best in the early months of the year.
After a low-key performance during Opening Weekend, where he
failed to make an impression on the cobbles, things worsened at Paris-Nice,
where he was forced to abandon before the second stage due to illness.
Now, it’s been confirmed that Asgreen will not be taking
part in the Flemish cobbled classics, marking a significant shift in his
early-season goals.
In a statement issued via the team, Asgreen said, “Although
I would be healthy enough to race now, my form is no longer what it should be
to be competitive. That is why the team and I have decided that I need to
refocus on being the best possible version of myself and then return to
cycling.”
It’s a disappointing setback for the Tour de France stage
winners, who arrived at EF with high expectations. His ability on the cobbles
has never been in question, but this year has not allowed him the consistency
or health required to compete at his usual level.
