Julian Alaphilippe shows improved form in Milano-Sanremo despite late flat tire: "I can't wait for the Belgian classics now"

Julian Alaphilippe crossed the line ninth in Milano-Sanremo. The Frenchman from Soudal - Quick-Step said he could have finished even higher, because he had to deal with a flat tire in the final straight, limiting him for the sprint.

"I'm happy with the way I rode. I had a good feeling all day and I had an incredibly strong team by my side. They have constantly protected me and always positioned me well at the right times. I am disappointed myself because I got a flat tire in the final. Without that flat tire I certainly could have finished higher."

Yet the former world champion is not all disappointed. "Top 10 in the first monument of the year is certainly not bad. Especially because, after everything that has happened in recent weeks, I could definitely participate in the final. I can't wait for the Belgian classics now. I hope to continue the upward trend there."
