Juan Ayuso is unwell and will not take to the start of today's Critérium du Dauphiné stage. It was reported on Twitter by
UAE Team Emirates who have said the Spaniard suffered from fever and will not have the opportunity to fight for the overall classification.
"Juan complained of stomach discomfort and diarrhea prior to yesterday's stage. He was treated appropriately but later developed a fever and mild dehydration," Team doctor David De Klerk said. "We performed a Covid test which returned negative but upon review this morning, his fever had not abated and his condition had not improved overnight. He was therefore withdrawn from further participation in the event," he added.
After a strong time-trial, the 19-year old was sitting in eighth place in the general classification and was the team's best option for GC after Brandon McNulty suffered a mechanical in the time-trial.
