Jonas Vingegaard takes to the startline at the Itzulia Basque Country with a clear goal in mind, enjoy his cycling and fight for the win.
“I feel very good. Hopefully I'm ready to fight for the win here, I'm going to do my best," the reigning Tour de France winner tells Cycling Pro Net. “It is true that there is no uphill finish or a time trial, but in recent years a lot has happened in the final stage. Something can always happen. Usually it's always the strongest guys who will fight it out."
Returning to action for the first time since finishing third overall at Paris-Nice behind his great rival Tadej Pogacar and David Gaudu, Vingegaard is also returning to the race where he made his World Tour debut back in 2019, finishing 32nd overall that year.
“It was my first WorldTour race as a professional, I was also able to show myself here for the first time," Jumbo-Visma's 26-year-old Dane recalls. "It's a great race and I'm looking forward to it."
