EF Education-EasyPost are making moves on the market, and two new names have surged as potential riders to race for the American team for 2023 in Jefferson Alexander Cepeda.
The news broke out according to a report from Ciro Scognimaglio, and when asked for comment from Velonews, Androni manager Gianni Savio had confirmed the rumoures: “Yes, they could happen but it’s not definitely finished. I think that it will be so because I discover many young riders and I’m happy when they have the possibility to go into the WorldTour".
This comes following EF's provisional startlist for the Vuelta a Burgos which includes Jefferson Alexander Cepeda. This would mean an unusual mid-season transfer, not a first for the team. The Ecuadorian, compatriot of Richard Carapaz who will be joining the team in 2023, has finished second at the Giro di Sicilia and fifth at Adriatica Ionica Race this season, proving to be a strong pure climber.
Alongside the climber was mentioned Andrea Piccolo, who has joined Drone Hopper - Androni Giocattoli in late June, having since finished on the Top10 of the national championships, Sibiu Tour and Prueba Villafranca. He has had a year with an early finish to his contract in Astana in 2021, and again at Gazprom who've lost their license in late February.
