Despite currently under contract with
Alpecin-Deceuninck,
UAE Team Emirates have initiated talks with
Jay Vine and are trying to make a move happen with the Australian climbing prodigy into the coming season.
The UAE team has recently announced the signing of Adam Yates, which is bringing in further firepower to the team's mountain block. Featuring supertalent Tadej Pogacar and Juan Ayuso who has just achieved the youngest ever podium position at a Vuelta a Espana; the likes of Yates, João Almeida who's consistently finished at the top of all Grand Tours he's ridden, and Brandon McNulty who has shown at the Tour de France world-class climbing abilities even against the very best, Vine's addition would make the team even stronger.
The Alpecin-Deceuninck rider turned pro in 2020, and jumped to the Belgian team in 2021 after winning the Zwift World Championships. He had given several signs of his climbing prowess, but his 2022 Vuelta a Espana saw him take two mountainous stage wins - one directly beating the GC riders - and led the KOM classification until he crashed and was forced to abandon the race in the final week.
The 26-year old currently has a contract with Alpecin into 2023 where he should make his debut at World Tour level, however Gazzetta dello Sport's Ciro Scognamiglio has reported that there are talks between him and UAE Team Emirates for a transfer in the upcoming season.
