Jan Ullrich had a turbulent career with a lot of ups and downs. His post-racing career also took the same path has his career with a good amount of scandals that gained him the spotlight for the wrong reasons.
Now, at 49 years old, the German says that he has been feeling better and is confident enough to say that he overcome his problem of substance abuse that lead him into problems with the law, "I’ve managed to build a stable environment around me again. That brings me an incredible amount, like sport, it’s an important part of my therapy" he said to Bild.
With this, Ullrich feels he has conditions to return to cycling, "Obviously, I won’t be a team’s sporting director, but if someone needs me, I’m open to anything. Of course, I won’t force myself."
The former Tour de France 1997 winner secured a four episodes documentary with the streaming platform Amazon Prime Video that will take a deep look at his career
It will be the first time Ullrich, publicly speaks about his singular career, that had a good amount of ups and downs, specially downs on the end that lead him into falling into disgrace.
"Lately there has been a lot of talk about me, positive and negative. It’s time for me to tell my story, my whole story, how I went from being a hunter to being a target.” said the German that hopes this documentary bring him new opportunities in his life," I hope that after the documentary, when all the questions have been re-discussed and hopefully finally concluded, maybe some doors will open again. And then I can go through life with more freedom.”
