Juan Ayuso has started incredibly strongly at Tirreno Adriatico 2024. The UAE Team Emirates leader won the opening time trial by one second over Filippo Ganna and took 22 seconds off Jonas Vingegaard to start.
This is what he said after the race. "It's wonderful, it wasn't clear until the end, it was going to be the great rival, until the last second we didn't know, it was very exciting and it gives me a lot of morale. I saw the times, I saw that I had to save energy before making the turn because of the weather, I knew I could make a time and I gave it all in the second part."
He was also asked about whether Jonas Vingegaard is the favourite to win the race and the Valencian did not say yes, although he made it clear that beating him would be very complicated.
"I don't know if he's the favourite, he's one of the toughest rivals for sure, it's going to be very hard to beat him, but we're going to give it our all to try."
