“It’s going to be an exciting year to see what he can do" - Magnus Sheffield set for Grand Tour debut in 2024

21-year-old American, Magnus Sheffield is very highly thought off within the INEOS Grenadiers and in 2024 it seems like the former Brabantse Pijl winner will get to show his talents in a Grand Tour.

“It’s going to be an exciting year to see what he can do,” the INEOS Grenadiers sports director, Oli Cookson recently said in conversation with Velo. “A Grand Tour is part of the plan. He’s looking good and he’s in really good shape. It’s going to be exciting to see what he can do this year.”

Sheffield's Grand Tour debut was initially planned to take place in 2023. After a disastrous crash on the same descent of the Tour de Suisse that tragically took the life of Gino Mader however, the American wasn't in a place mentally, emotionally or physically to compete at last year's Vuelta a Espana.

“For Magnus, what a talent,” Cookson said. “He’s a very intelligent, well-mannered, driven young man who knows what he wants, and he’s progressing the right way.”

It seems perhaps the Giro d'Italia would be the best opportunity to demonstrate Sheffield's skills, both in support of the expected INEOS Grenadiers leader, Geraint Thomas and due to the relatively time-trial-heavy route.
