In a tough finale on stage 2 of the
Critérium du Dauphiné,
Sam Bennett was right there in the mix with the general classification riders in the drag up to the line before ultimately fading to an 11th-placed finish.
“I didn't feel very good at the beginning of the stage but I was improving towards the final. It was one of those days where you come around a bit," the Irishman told the official website of his team,
BORA - hansgrohe. "I was in a good position but in the final 200m I might have waited a bit too long. Anyway, compared to yesterday, I’m happy to be in the mix again.“
Stage 3 looks like a much more favourable day for the fast men, and Bennett will be hoping his strong performance on stage 2 gives him good legs for the expected sprint finish. With both Bennett and
Dylan Groenewegen the only true sprinters in the race, chances of victory will be high.
