Showing some better legs than on the previous summit finish, Team Visma | Lease a Bike's Sepp Kuss eventually came home 5th on stage 3 at the 2024 Volta a Catalunya.
"We wanted to make it a hard race," Kuss reflected in his post-stage interview with Eurosport, addressing Visma's tactics of controlling things at the front of the peloton despite not having the leaders jersey for once. "If it's too easy all day, more guys are fresh in the end. So for us, it was better to set a good pace and see what happened on that final climb."
On the summit finish, Tadej Pogacar was once again head and shoulders above the rest, although at one point, Kuss looked like he might be able to bridge across. "It was good to show ourselves," he concludes. "I felt good and it was fun to race."
