The long-running saga of Maxim van Gils contract situation is now just days away from reaching its final end point. Although official confirmation of his signing remains elusive, the contract is signed and news is imminent according to the Belgian's agent, Alex Carera.
After having had a solid season in 2024, winning the reduced Vuelta a Andalucia, Eschborn-Frankfurt and the GP des Kantons Aargau, Van Gils and Carera secured the ripping up of the Belgian's Lotto Dstny contract recently, opening the door to a big money move for the 25-year-old.
Since then, the rumour mill has been in overdrive speculating about potential destinations for Van Gils, with links to teams such as the INEOS Grenadiers, Astana Qazaqstan Team and Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe. It was reported on Friday that the latter team of those three had won the race, and now, although he doesn't reveal who with, Carera has admitted Van Gils has signed a contract with his new employers ahead of the 2025 campaign.
"More details, such as the name of his new team and the reason for his choice, will be announced next Monday," teases the super-agent in quotes collected by Sporza.
As mentioned, it seems a badly kept secret that Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe have won the race for Van Gils signature. On Monday it seems, we shall get the official confirmation of the end of one of the most-discussed transfer stories of the current window.
