Much has been made of the tactics of
Jumbo-Visma over the last few days at the
Vuelta a Espana with both
Primoz Roglic and
Jonas Vingegaard seemingly attacking the race-leading teammate,
Sepp Kuss. Sporza analyst
Jose De Cauwer believes he knows why.
"They are three teammates and no one is qualified to place themselves between them. We have to bow down and say: 'Jumbo-Visma is by far the best team'," De Cauwer says post-stage 17 on Sporza. "Roglic set the pace and Kuss was dropped. We saw him speak. Roglic did not look back to see if they had to wait. Kuss signalled that they didn't have to look. He also admitted that himself."
Despite Kuss clearly being the fan's favourite to win the Red Jersey, De Cauwer doesn't believe the American is Jumbo-Visma's choice. And being in such a strong position in the GC, they have the ability to pick and choose to an extent, which of the three takes victory.
"I think the hierarchy within the team has been determined anyway. Vingegaard has already won the Tour de France twice and is even younger than the other two. I think he's the leader," De Cauwer concludes. With just a few days until Madrid, we don't have long to find out.
