In his traditional column for Cyclism'Actu French expert
Cyrille Guimard once again analyzes upcoming
Vuelta a Espana. According to him, the biggest favourite is
Primoz Roglic as
Remco Evenepoel would need to find wings to break through
Jumbo-Visma's GC fortress.
"It's a classic route for La Vuelta. The spotlight will be on climbers, specialists in summit finishes. Just look at the list of sprinters entered to know that they don't have much to do on this Vuelta a Espana. The big names will not be present. We might have thought that Arnaud Démare, who has just arrived at Arkéa-Samsic, would be at the start," Guimard analyzes the route.
"Jumbo-Visma still has the advantage with two riders capable of making the difference. But it's always difficult to have two leaders in the same team, since there are egos, ambitions... even if for the moment Jumbo-Visma manages it relatively well. Logically, they should be able to put Remco Evenepoel in difficulty, even to send him to 3rd place overall."
"A prognosis? A Jumbo-Visma, I don't take a lot of risks. I think Evenepoel is going to be in trouble, or else he's totally aerial and there he enters another dimension. So I would put Roglic, who is always comfortable on Spanish roads, but you have to put a ticket on the other two too," Guimard laughs.
