"I knew he had good legs and I knew him" - Daniel Martinez takes second stage of 2024 Volta ao Algarve at Remco Evenepoel's expense

Although he was unable to win the overall classification of the Volta ao Algarve 2024, which went to Remco Evenepoel, Daniel Martinez can leave the Portuguese race happy after two stage wins. The second of these coming on the final stage after a fierce battle with Evenepoel himself on the climb to the finish.

"I've really trained quite well this winter, I've done well there in Colombia. I'm happy with the team's work today. In the end we had good legs and we were able to finish off well," said the Colombian time trial champion in his post-stage interview, who despite not being able to revalidate his 2023 win in the general classification, the performance offered is very remarkable.

Regarding the final fight against Evenepoel, the BORA - hansgrohe rider said he had extra motivation because he had already beaten him before in this same race: "I knew he had good legs and I knew him. And in the end, when the team does an exceptional job like today, I had extra motivation. So I knew I had to give it my all."

Finally, Daniel Martinez was asked about his next goal he has in mind to continue prolonging his great form in BORA: "The Strade Bianche, and I don't know if the Tirreno Adriatico. I've done it twice before and it's a pretty tough race. We'll see how it goes. I'm coming along very well and we have a team to get a good result."
