19-year-old Joshua Tarling has once again proved he is not just the future of cycling but also very much the present, backing up his World Championships bronze with victory at the European Championships in the individual time-trial.
"It was very tough," the Welshman who rides for INEOS Grenadiers revealed in his post-race interview following his triumph. "I felt weaker today than during the World Championships. The wind was also blowing very strong. Initially, the wind came more from one direction, but it changed to a crosswind. So there was no tailwind or headwind. It was a matter of constantly delivering a lot of force, really tough."
Finishing ahead of the last year's European Champion, Stefan Bissegger and Belgian superstar Wout van Aert, Tarling dominated the field to take victory by a considerable margin.
From here until the end of the season, Tarling will be racing at the CRO Race and the Chrono des Nations where he will be able to showcase his new Jersey.
