One of the victims of the sudden discontinuation of American Human Powered Health is Belgian Gijs Van Hoecke. The 32-year-old rider, who previously raced for LottoNL-Jumbo, CCC or AG2R Citroën, now finds himself without a contract at the begining of December and the views are not great, he tells WielerFlits.
"We are working on it. My manager is still discussing the possibilities with a few teams, but other than that I can only confirm that I have not signed anywhere yet. I hope that there will finally be some more clarity in the coming weeks."
"We had not received any signal that the team would not be able to continue," he says about the sudden disbanding of the American team. "It was an extra big surprise, because I still had a contract for 2024. And it was an extra shame that the team was still in full development. A lot of work now seems to have been for nothing."
Whatever the outcome may be for Van Hoecke, the world won't stop spinning and so he's in a full preparation for 2024, even if there's no guarantee yet, he'll actually get to race. "I started training like every other year, with a lot of motivation. I am preparing as I normally would, and hopefully 2024 will be a normal season for me again."
