21-year-old Briton Lewis Askey has extended his Groupama - FDJ contract until 2025 after impressing during his first season at World Tour level this year.
A solid if unspectacular season, highlighted by a 2nd placed finish at the Classic Loire Atlantique has seen young British prospect, Lewis Askey impress the bosses at Groupama - FDJ and secure himself a World Tour ride for the foreseeable future. Not someone to let the pressure get to him however, Askey wasn't worried, "I race for me, because I'm not stressed about if I don't perform here" he said "I'm only thinking about what's best for the team."
Part of the set-up at the French team since he was 18 years of age, Askey has always been highly thought of by Groupama - FDJ and from next season he will also be joined by his younger brother Ben who will ride for the developmental team at continental level.
After featuring in some of the biggest races on the calendar this year including Paris-Roubaix and the Tour of Flanders, Askey believes these experiences will stand him in good stead for the next year. "I got to go and race the biggest races, so it was a useful year." Askey said, "I've learned a lot."
