The annual Dutch National Headwind Championships have sadly been cancelled this year. The reason for this? Curiously, the high gales of Storm Ciarán.
A prestigious event in the Netherlands, the headwind championships have previously seen notable winners such as former Olympic gold medallist in mountain bike, Bart Brentjens. But this year, the wind has proven the true winner.
"We've been closely monitoring the development of Storm Ciarán and unfortunately it has become so strong that we can't start. Everyone's safety is our top priority," said the race's organisers on their official social media pages. "We were really looking forward to it, but have had to make this decision in cooperation with different parties and with pain in our hearts."
