"He is not sick or injured" - Soudal - Quick-Step clarify Remco Evenepoel's state after day to forget at the Vuelta a Espana

Remco Evenepoel had a disastrous day on stage 13 of the Vuelta a Espana. Losing twenty-seven minutes he completely cracked, and is no longer anywhere near general classification contention.

In a short press release, Soudal - Quick-Step sports director Klaas Lodewyck addressed some of the concerns around the team's leader. "We can't say much after this ride. It was just a bad day for Remco. He is not sick or injured," explains Lodewyck. "This is unfortunate, but it can happen. Cycling is not a simulation game and we are all human. As a team we will sit together, look at what happened and set our goals for the rest of the match."

Evenepoel is now at a crossroads in his career after this nightmare day. Which way he turns remains to be seen but with there still eight stages remaining, it's certainly not out of the question that the Belgian could readjust his focus and take another stage win home from Spain. Only time will tell.
