Remco Evenepoel had a disastrous day on stage 13 of the
Vuelta a Espana. Losing twenty-seven minutes he completely cracked, and is no longer anywhere near general classification contention.
In a short press release,
Soudal - Quick-Step sports director
Klaas Lodewyck addressed some of the concerns around the team's leader. "We can't say much after this ride. It was just a bad day for Remco. He is not sick or injured," explains Lodewyck. "This is unfortunate, but it can happen. Cycling is not a simulation game and we are all human. As a team we will sit together, look at what happened and set our goals for the rest of the match."
