Matteo Jorgenson achieved today his first victory as a professional cyclist, in stage 3 of
Tour of Oman, the North-American rider of
Movistar team was the strongest in the difficult Jabal Haat hill. He launched 2 powerful attacks along the climb, with the last one close to the finish granting him his first ever pro win.
"This is very special. It's really a relief. At some point you start thinking you're not good enough to win races anyway, but today I finally showed it. The final climb was quite steep, but I decided to attack already on the steep section, to test the competitors. They didn't ride to my wheel straight away, and then I already knew I had good legs. I also felt excellent. In the sprint I went on at 200 metres from the line", he stated in the post race conference.
This stage victory also granted him the leadership of the general classification of Tour of Oman. The North-American looks keen to keep his leadership and doesn't feel afraid of the presence of the Green Mountain (5.7 km at 10%) on the last stage on Wednesday.
I have a lot of confidence in a good outcome. I am in very good shape and also felt the strongest climber today. Green Mountain is longer and steeper, but I can handle that too.", Jorgenson concluded.
