Cofidis have confirmed the capture of Gorka Izagirre from the Movistar Team on a deal that will reunite the Basque rider with his brother and stage winner at the 2023 Tour de France, Ion Izagirre.
"I’m really happy with this new challenge," Gorka has told the official Cofidis website following the announcement. "The feeling I had with the staff members is very good. For me, it's a new team, a new country, a new language and I will do everything to be up to it."
With his brother already on the team, Gorka of course asked his brother for advice. "Ion has only told me good things about this team and it's a pleasure to be part of it. I know the Spanish riders and staff members of the team well," he says. "My goal will be to help the team leaders shine and do everything to ensure they achieve as many victories as possible."
Cofidis boss Cedric Vasseur also had only positive words for his newest acquisition. "The arrival of a rider as experienced as Gorka Izagirre is undeniable added value for the team and for our young guns. Gorka's journey and track record speak for themselves and guarantee us a new step forward in the UCI World Tour circuit. Gorka and Ion have always shone when they have had the opportunity to wear the same jersey and I am convinced that they will delight us with the Cofidis jersey."
