Giro d'Italia and World Championships the main goals for Alessandro Covi

UAE Team Emirates rider Alessandro Covi is gearing up for another year of impressive performances. He is widely considered a standout and rising star in the peloton.

Last season, he recorded his first professional victory and also gained fame by winning the 20th stage of the Giro d'Italia. Currently, he is in Australia to participate in the Tour Down Under and Cadel Evans Road Race.

He discussed his plans for the first half of the year with La Prealpina. "When I get back from Australia, I'll pedal in Spain, racing those races that last year gave me my first victories as a professional. My debut in Italy will be at Laigueglia, then I'll be at the start of Strade Bianche, Tirreno-Adriatico, Milano-Sanremo and GP Industria & Artigianato di Larciano.”

He further added, “Next, in Spain in the GP Indurain and in Belgium at the Brabantse Pijl on 12 April, before a period of altitude training in Sierra Nevada in the run-up to the Giro d'Italia".

He wishes to repeat his achievements in the Giro and, ideally, secure a stage win. Another target he has this year is “the blue jersey at the World Championships in Glasgow in early August and to repeating myself in a stage of the Giro. In order to approach the World Championships in the best possible way, I'll return to racing at the Italian Championships at the end of June, and then I'll race the Tour of Austria in July,” concluded the Italian rider.
