Giacomo Nizzolo was one of the victims of the recent Eurométropole Tour, and the injuries he sustained there have led the Italian sprinter to pull out of the
European championships where he was a contender for the medals.
"I am very sorry to say that unfortunately I cannot compete for the European title on Sunday due to a heavy crash in 'Eurometropole'. I gave everything to be there, but the pain is too strong. I will support my teammates from home. Forza Azzurri," Nizzolo said in a social media post.
Italy has a multi-pronged approach to the race, one that does not suit aggressive racing, but with the presence of powerhouse riders such as Matteo Trentin and Filippo Ganna, sprinters such as Alberto Dainese and Jonathan Milan who've shown great form recently, the team will not lack any option.
In his replacement however will be Elia Viviani who can equally target a high result in the road race, although the team's hopes should now rely much more on Team DSM sprinter Alberto Dainese in the sprint at Munich.
