Intermarché-Circus-Wanty have been dealt a blow on the eve of the start of the 2023 Vuelta a Espana as their star sprinter Gerben Thijssen has been forced to withdraw.
"Gerben Thijssen will not participate in the Vuelta a Espana 2023, after testing positive for COVID with mild symptoms this Friday," an official announcement made by the X (Twitter) account of the Intermarché-Circus-Wanty team.
The team have also announced who will be the replacement of Thijssen. "Gerben will be replaced by Simone Petilli." How will this affect the plans of the team at the final Grand Tour of the year? We don't have long to find out.
