GC Update Vuelta a Espana 2025 Stage 7 | Jonas Vingegaard vaults up to 2nd overall as Torstein Traeen retains the race lead

Stage 7 of the 2025 Vuelta a Espana proved to be another day for the breakaway as UAE Team Emirates - XRG's Juan Ayuso dominated from the break, taking a solo stage win - the first of his Vuelta career and the third in succession for UAE.

In terms of the fight for the general classification, despite some testing attacks by the likes of Joao Almeida and Giulio Ciccone on the final climb, the Red Jersey Torstein Traeen retained the overall race lead, rolling home alongside his aforementioned rivals and Jonas Vingegaard among others.

Vingegaard does make some positive strides in the general classification however, with the two-time Tour de France winner vaulting up into 2nd overall, 2:33 down on Traeen after the first 7 days of racing, with Almeida (+2:41), and Ciccone (+2:42) keeping close tabs on the Visma leader before Lorenzo Fortunato completes the top 5 at 2:47 down.

Further down the GC, Matteo Jorgenson is up into 6th at 2:49, Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe duo Jai Hindley and Giulio Pellizzari then follow, locked together on time at 2:53 with Egan Bernal (+2:55) and Felix Gall (+2:58) rounding out the top 10.
