On a relatively quiet day as far as the general classification battle at the Giro d'Italia goes, Patrick Konrad threatened to break into the top 10 after his appearance in the breakaway but an incident-free day for the race favourites would have been a welcome change.

Geraint Thomas remains in the Maglia Rosa, still just 2 seconds clear of his closest rival, Jumbo-Visma's Primoz Roglic. After Tao Geoghegan Hart crashed out on stage 11, Joao Almeida is on the podium in third just 22 seconds behind Thomas with former Maglia Rosa Andreas Leknessund the last rider within a minute of the lead in 4th.

Damiano Caruso, Lennard Kamna and Eddie Dunbar are at 5th, 6th and 7th respectively before two of Thomas's INEOS Grenadiers teammates, Thymen Arensman and Laurens de Plus make an appearance in the top 10, giving the team plenty of options as the race enters the Alps. Rounding out the top 10 is stage 4 winner Aurélien Paret-Peintre at 2:48. Konrad's breakaway efforts see the BORA - hansgrohe rider move up to 13th and he could be a key teammate of Kamna in the coming days.
