France confirm European Championship lineup with Christophe Laporte set to defend title

On September the 15th, the men's road race at the 2024 European Championship is on the programme for many of the biggest names in the peloton. France have now confirmed their lineup, headlined again by the 2023 European Championship winner, Christophe Laporte.

Last year, with just over 12km to go, Laporte made his attack and initially, the chase behind stalled. With 3km to go the Frenchman still had around 10 seconds advantage as he dangled out front tantalisingly. When Wout van Aert kicked for the line though, it looked for a moment as if he had stolen the win at the finale, but Laporte kicked once again to victory with Olav Kooij coming home in third.

In defence of his crown, this time around Laporte will be joined by a strong French team that includes Arkéa - B&B Hotels sprinter Arnaud Demare and lead out man Mathis Le Berre, Movistar Team's Remi Cavagna, Intermarché - Wanty duo Hugo Page and Adrien Petit, plus Groupama - FDJ's Eddy Le Huitouze and TotalEnergies' Sandy Dujardin.
