Florian Lipowitz continues breakthrough season with victory at Sibiu Tour - "I'm just happy to go home with a win"

Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe has gotten it's first win with it's new name and colours. After a season packed with impressive performances, Florian Lipowitz was given the leadership at the Sibiu Cycling Tour in Romania and has won the overall classification.

"I came to the Sibiu Tour without any great expectations and now I'm just happy to go home with a win," Lipowitz opened on the team's official website. "The team did a great job here, especially on the long uphill finish. I knew the climb from last year and knew that I could still sprint at the end. That's why we waited relatively long and Sergio [Higuita] rode a real leadout in the finale."

The victory of the 23-year-old Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe rider ahead of Andreas Leknessund and George Bennett is also his first win of the season. After finishing on the podium of the Tour de Romandie the German rider has caught the eyes of many in the peloton, and he was set to show it at the Giro d'Italia but was forced to abandon in the first week.

The fact that he of all people is the one who has achieved a historic victory for the team under the new name makes him very happy. "Today was hectic again at the start. We worked very well as a team and controlled the race - everyone did their job perfectly. That's why I'm happy that I can reward the work of my team-mates with this victory."

On the first stage of the Sibiu Tour, which included the climb to Păltiniș, Lipowitz was able to demonstrate his excellent climbing skills; however, he was beaten in a photo finish at the finish. After a good time trial the following day, the attack on the yellow jersey began on Sunday on the queen stage with the mountain arrival at Bâlea Lac, where Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe's smoothly running teamwork enabled the young talent to distance himself from his opponents. The team then ensured that the yellow jersey remained with Florian Lipowitz on the final stage in outstanding style, who also won the mountain classification of the race.
