Fabio Jakobsen did himself a favor towards the Tour de France by winning the second stage of the Tour of Hungary. The Dutch sprinter of Soudal Quick-Step suddenly came out in the final meters and left everyone in the dust.
Anyone who watched the final of the second stage would hardly believe that Jakobsen could still win. He lost all his teammates in the last two kilometers and seemed to be in a beaten position. "It was super hectic in the last kilometers," the Dutchman admitted in a post-race interview.
"I lost my lead-out men, but was able to keep my composure and start my sprint three hundred meters from the finish. Despite the wet asphalt, I finished with a very good sprint," said Jakobsen in a quick post-race interview.
Between the Dutch sprinters Jakobsen and Groenewegen in Hungary it is now 1-1 again. Groenewegen won the first stage, Jakobsen the second. Ahead of the Tour de France Jakobsen is in need of wins, as team co-leader Tim Merlier continues to impress.
