Fabio Aru: "Stringing two Grand Tours together is very difficult, but if one rider can win the double Giro-Tour, then it's Pogacar"

Fabio Aru never managed to get himself on the top step of the Giro d'Italia podium but he has come close. He has also been a teammate and roommate of this year's favourite Tadej Pogacar; someone who he has great confidence in ahead of this edition.

"We were teammates for two years and even roommates when he achieved his first victory in the Tour of the Algarve in 2019," Aru shared in an interview with Flashcore. "Stringing two Grand Tours together is very difficult, but if one rider can win the double Giro-Tour, then it's Pogacar," the Italian argues.

UAE Team Emirates bring a lineup that is far from their best, but nevertheless is still one of the strongest in the race. Pogacar will have the support of the likes of Rafal Majka, Domen Novak and Mikkel Bjerg; but UAE at the Tour will be very dangerous with the likes of Adam Yates, Juan Ayuso and João Almeida all being riders who can also fight for the overall classification.

Now working as an ambassador for several brands, Aru is very much still within the cycling bubble, and naturally has made it to the Grande Partenza. "The time had come to stop and I still think it was the right decision. Of course my physical problems played a role, but it was a whole series of things that led me to this decision," he adds. "Now I work for various cycling companies, participate in events and spend time with customers and enthusiasts. I am happy with my choice then."
