Team Visma | Lease a Bike's Olav Kooij has taken the win at the 2024 Clasica de Almeria, thanks in part to a stunning leadout from Wout van Aert.
Five men formed the breakaway of the day, including notable names such as Movistar Team's Will Barta and the vastly experienced Luis Angel Mate. Sadly for them, their day was done with 15km still to be raced as the peloton completed the catch.
With a complete peloton racing towards the conclusion of the day, a bunch sprint finish was to be the deciding factor. In the battle for positioning at the front of the bunch, Team Visma | Lease a Bike were attempting to assert their authority and when the sprint for the line launched, Olav Kooij was perfectly positioned, taking the win as a result. Behind the Dutchman, came Matteo Moschetti in second.
