Enric Mas spoke to the media during the rest stage of the Vuelta a España and once again made it very clear that his only objective between now and the finish in Madrid next Sunday is to get the podium.
The Mallorcan cyclist has his sights set on getting back on the podium and not even a stage win at the Angliru will make him take his eyes off his goal. He speaks of "obsession" to finish in the top three of the Spanish Grand Tour (remember that the Movistar Team rider has already finished second three times in his career).
"It's clear that being on the podium is a personal choice, the obsession is there. That's how it is. For my profile as a rider, the podium is more valuable than the L'Angliru stage," he said. The Spaniard currently sits 3:06 minutes away from Sepp Kuss who leads the race, and 1:22 minutes away from third place Jonas Vingegaard.
Stage 17 is a day of focus for many with a summit finish at the Alto de l'Angliru, and Mas is motivated to perform in there: "But there's no doubt that, winning that stage, it would be super nice for the team."
