Elisa Balsamo outsprints Charlotte Kool to win women's Scheldeprijs

The women's Scheldeprijs opened up the action this Wednesday, and what was expected to be a regular bunch sprint race turned out to be more complicated. However, all the pieces of the puzzle in the end fit for Lidl-Trek, and Elisa Balsamo managed to take the win on the day.
The cobbled sectors and hard pace saw a few attacks in the final hour of racing, and a group of 10 riders threatened to fight for victory. This group contained two SD Worx riders in the absence of Lorena Wiebes and also Zoe Bäckstedt. It was a quality group but cooperation wasn't ideal, and the catch was made inside the final kilometer. Lidl-Trek did a textbook leadout for Balsamo, and she managed to beat Charlotte Kool and Chiara Consonni to the line.
