Dirk De Wolf on Soudal Quick-Step's Giro team - "Laurens De Plus would fit perfectly in the team, will be extra motivated to work for Remco"

Remco Evenepoel is presently in great shape, as evidenced by his second-place finish in the fourth stage of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya.

But there is always room for error and improvement. "Remco made a mistake in the 2nd stage in the sprint against Roglic and Ciccone. I sent him that in a message," said Dirk De Wolf on Wielerclub Wattage. 

His participation in the Giro is confirmed, but the same can't be said for his fellow team members, whom De Wolf thinks have the potential to make significant progress before the competition begins. "Serry, Van Wilder, Vervaeke and Hirt all performed fantastically. And they will all get a few percent better, because they are all still on stage for the Giro,”  

He acknowledges that only a small number of riders from the aforementioned group will have the chance to ride alongside the World Champion in a grand tour, but he maintains that Laurens De Plus should be included in that group.

"Another 2 to 3 riders will be recruited anyway,Now they have a good team around Remco, but they have to fish from a pond that is too small,” said Boonen. De Wolf added, "If a rider drops out due to illness, they will get into trouble. The base of the round team around Remco must become broader and stronger. Someone like Laurens De Plus would fit perfectly in the team. He will be extra motivated to work for Remco."
