Czech Tour winner Marc Hirschi replaces Stefan Bissegger in Swiss lineup for 2024 Paris Olympic Games road race

The Swiss national team has been forced into a late change ahead of the men's individual road race at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games on Saturday, August 3rd, with Marc Hirschi replacing Stefan Bissegger.

Bissegger, who finished 6th, 1:26 down on gold medal winner Remco Evenepoel in Saturday's men's individual time trial at the Paris Olympics, has reportedly been suffering from back muscle issues and therefore been forced into a late withdrawal from the road race.

In Hirschi however, the Swiss have a ready made and in form replacement ready to go. Arguably a slightly controversial omission in the first place, the Swiss national champion has been riding for UAE Team Emirates at the 2024 Czech Tour over the last few days and actually managed to secure himself the general classification win on Sunday afternoon's final stage, despite missing out on a second stage win to Julian Alaphilippe in a thrilling finale to stage 4.

Now though, the 25-year-old former Tour de France stage winner will make the trip to the Olympic village in Paris and link up with Stefan Kung, ready for the road race this coming Saturday where Hirschi is likely to be considered a dark horse for a medal, despite the late nature of his selection.
