The women's Elite road race World Championships today will start without two main figures. The time-trial world Champion Chloé Dygert and medal contender Katarzyna Niewiadoma will both not take to the start line this morning with illness.
In a note issued by the duo's team Canyon//SRAM, the team has written: "Wishing a full recovery to Katarzyna Niewiadoma and Chloé Dygert who are both announced as not racing the Elite Road Race today due to illness and on medical advice from their respective Federations."
Niewiadoma, just off a third spot at the Tour de France Femmes, was hoping to be part of the battle against the Dutch. “I can hardly express how shocked and sad I am that I will not be able to start," she said. "But health always comes first. I just need to rest now.”
