We’ve done it again! 🥳🏆 What a sprint from @charlotte_kool who biding her time perfectly in the hectic headwind sprint after a super ride from the team throughout the day! 💪🏻 #KeepChallenging #UAETourWomen
The last stage of the first ever edition of UAE Ladies Tour ended in another mass sprint with Charlotte Kool taking again the best ahead of Lorena Wiebes. The Team DSM rider made another epic sprint duel with her former teammate now in SD Worx to take the sprint win. Elisa Longo Borghini finished with the best and become the first winner of UAE Ladies Tour.
Three riders formed the breakaway of this closing stage, Petra Stiasny (Fenix-Deceunick), Aileen Schweikart (Laboral Kutxka Fundación Euskadi) and Iris Monticolo (Top Girls Fassa Bortolo). The break was caught around 13 kilometres to go.
Today there wasn't much strong crosswind, until the peloton passed on a bridge on the last 15 km where Liane Lippert and Emma Norsgaard (Movistar Team) made an echelon that stretched the peloton. But to no avail since all went together and a bunch sprint happened. Team SD Worx made the lead out but Lorena Wiebes launched her sprint a bit too early and Kool took advantage of that.
Charlotte Kool (Team DSM) finished ahead of (Chiara Consonni (Team UAE ADQ) and Lorena Wiebes (Team SD Worx). Elisa Longo Borghini took the general classification win ahead of teammate Gaia Realini (both Trek-Segafredo) and Silvia Persico (Team UAE ADQ) becoming the first ever winner of the UAE Ladies Tour.
