One of the great promises of Spanish cycling, the very young Héctor Álvarez, who has just turned 18 and is facing his first season with Lidl-Trek Future Racing and who looked like he was going to have races with the World Tour outfit this season, has started 2025 on the wrong foot with a crash that will keep him out for a while.
Álvarez is one of the most promising riders in the entire peloton, having impressed immensely in his final junior year in 2024, winning plenty races on the road whilst equally showing off his talent in cyclocross - a special talent for a Spanish rider as well. . He was second in the European Championship and sixth in the Junior World Championship, has fractured his collarbone, so he will have to undergo surgery and be out for a while before making his debut in a very exciting season for him.
"Yesterday I had an accident during a training ride during which I unfortunately broke my collarbone. Now we are waiting for the operation to start with the rehabilitation so I can return to one hundred percent in my first season as a Lidl-Trek rider. Thanks to everyone for the messages of support, I'll be back soon," the cyclist commented on social media.
