The national championships in Australia are kicking off the action for the 2025 season and today gave way to the criterium events. Sam Welsford and Amber Pate, some of the top favourite for both events, have managed to take their first wins of the year in Perth.
The men's event came down to a sprint finish where Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe rider Sam Welsford took a strong win, starting off the year with a bang like last year. He beat Cameron Scott and Blake Quick (both former World Tour riders) in the final sprint.

Pate's victory was perhaps more unexpected but in such a difficult race to control, early attacks could succeed. That's exactly what happened, as Pate and Keira Will moved off the front and then grew a big gap over the peloton that could not chase. She eventually launched an attack in the final kilometers to take a solo win.
