Peter Sagan's final professional appearance with TotalEnergies at the Tour de Vendée launched an avalanche of farewells to the three-time world champion, seemingly assuming that the phenomenon would never race on road again. However local source, Denník Šport, reports that that would be inaccurate.
"Peter Sagan definitely hasn't said 'goodbye' to road cycling yet. He'll part ways with TotalEnergies at the end of the season to focus on his next goals on mountainbikes and cyclocross in upcoming season. As a part of his 2024 preparation, he intends to make an appearance on several lower-level road events," says Sagan's marketing manager Gabriele Ubildi.
Ubildi notes that Sagan's main objective is to use his road schedule as a quality training ahead of his off-road goals, with Olympic Games in mind. When it comes to the Slovakians road team, one name is mentioned more often than others, the one where his brother Juraj is the DS - RRK Group - Pierre Baguette. However this depends on Peter's sponsor, Specialized.
Ubildi explains the situation: "It would be very nice to see Peter in home colours, but that's to be decided later. There are multiple options, including racing for a development team that sports Specialized bicycles." Details are to be decided on a meeting in United States next week. On mountain bikes, Sagan will race exclusively in Specialized Factory Racing Team colours.
