Amy Pieters and SD Worx - Protime have resolved their legal
dispute over the terms of her contract following the devastating training crash
in December 2021 that left Pieters with a brain injury. Pieters
is still in
recovery from the injuries sustained in the incident.
Pieters' employment contract with the team
ended on 1 January 2023, leaving her without income. Pieters initiated legal
proceedings in an effort to have her agreement with
Team SD Worx - Protime
recognised as an indefinite employment contract.
In a statement, SD Worx-Protime explained, “Amy Pieters and
SD Worx-Protime had a business difference of opinion about the settlement of
the contract, after Amy had a bad fall in 2021 and could no longer be active as
a cyclist. This difference of opinion ultimately led to legal proceedings.”
The team emphasised that despite the dispute, their personal
relationship with Pieters remained strong throughout the process. “Although
both parties experienced this as very unpleasant, the personal relationship
between Amy and Team SD Worx-Protime was never put under pressure. The respect
for each other was, and is, great. The parties are therefore pleased to report
that an amicable solution has now been reached for the dispute, which means
that the ongoing procedures can be terminated.”
Both Pieters and the team expressed satisfaction with the
outcome and hope for a positive future. “Both parties are satisfied with the
future of the negotiations and the settlement reached and see this as an
opportunity to end an unpleasant period. Pieters wishes Team SD Worx-Protime a
lot of success in the coming seasons. Team SD Worx-Protime in turn hopes that
Amy will continue to recover. Neither party will make any further substantive
statements about the details of the agreement,” the statement concluded.
