AG2R Citroën is still busy finalizing the selection for 2024 and according to Het Laatste Nieuws, the French team will recruit two Belgian riders in the near future. These are Gianluca Pollefliet and Sander De Pestel.
The 21-year-old Pollefliet comes from the training team of Lotto Dstny. He is known as a sprinter who won, among other things, the Memorial Philippe Van Coningsloo (1.2) last season. He was also second in the GP Rik Van Looy and the Dorpenomloop Rucphen, and third in the Youngster Coast Challenge. At the last European Cycling Championships in Drenthe, he was the best Belgian in eleventh place.
The 25-year-old De Pestel switches to AG2R Citroën from Flanders-Baloise. After three years in Lotto Soudal's U23 team, he made his debut with Sport Vlaanderen-Baloise in 2020 where he spent the past four seasons. In 2023 he had his best season to date, with sixth place at the Antwerp Port Epic or 10th at Dwars door het Hageland and Ronde van Limburg.
At AG2R Citroën, Pollefliet and De Pestel will meet at least three compatriots. Oliver Naesen and Stan Dewulf are already important parts of the French team, while the arrival of Dries De Bondt from Alpecin-Deceuninck also seems to be an open secret.
