After great stint of form, Juan Sebastián Molano's spring ends with concussion and numerous injuries in training crash

Juan Sebastián Molano won a stage at the UAE Tour and most recently the GP de Denain. The UAE Team Emirates sprinter was in great form and was expected to lead the team at Gent-Wevelgem, but a training crash sees the end of his spring campaign with bad injuries.

Unfortunately Juan Sebastián Molano will be ruled out of Gent - Wevelgem having sustained numerous injuries in a training crash in Belgium," a team announcement said. "Amongst his injuries, Molano suffered concussion and a fractured toe which will keep him on the sidelines for some weeks."

Whilst Molano skipped the E3 Saxo Classic where the team's ambitions passed through Tadej Pogacar, he stayed in Belgium training in anticipation for Sunday's race where he would be an outsider.

In the absence of the Slovenian, Pascal Ackermann becomes the likely leader of UAE for the Belgian classic, whilst Tim Wellens and Matteo Trentin remain outsiders.
