Team Bolton Equities Black Spoke rider Aaron Gate has won the third stage of the Tour de Luxembourg. He beat Benjamin Thomas in the final sprint to score his first stage victory in the tour.
The first breakaway attempt was made by a group of 9 riders. Thomas Delphis (ACT), Pierre Rolland (BBK), Gil Gelders (BWB), Felipe Orts Lloret (BBH), Joseba Lopez Cuesta (CJR), Joel Nicolau Beltran (CJR), Asier Etxeberria Zafra (EUS), Sindre Kulset (UXT), and Théo Bonnet (GDM). The group took a lead of 3 minutes and 40 seconds at the start of the race.
However, the group was caught 17 kilometers before the finish line. There were several attacks by Groupama–FDJ riders followed by Trek–Segafredo. After a bit of struggle, Mattias Skjelmose Jensen took a 9-second lead.
But Skjelmose could not keep the lead for much long. In the end, it was Aaron Gate who secured the victory. Benjamin Thomas finished second, while Davide Ballerini took the bronze for the second time.
