How deep will the overall classification contenders go this afternoon at the Giro d'Italia? Judging by the racing so far another day of conserving lies ahead, however Primoz Roglic believes the race can blow up.
“I expect to get the race all day today, from the start to the finish. A fight between the classification riders? I think so," Roglic told CyclingPro.net. "It's a really tough course and it's a day before the rest day. Due to the many climbs and the fatigue of the past few days, it will be a tough ride. I hope I have good legs and will be there again in the final."
Roglic has attacked stage 8 which had a steep string of climbs towards the end, but in the high mountains has kept his powder dry, as did Geraint Thomas and João Almeida. The Slovenian sits third in the overall classification at the start today, only 2 seconds away from Geraint Thomas and 1:43 minutes on Bruno Armirail.
The day does feature around 4000 meters of climbing, however it will be up to the riders to decide whether attacks will take place or not, as so far in all three mountains stages Jumbo-Visma have ridden very conservatively and not hit the wind.
