Remco Evenepoel set out to race for the overall classification at the
Vuelta a Espana, but after that goal failed, he moved on and climbed onto the podium as winner of the KOM classification.
This was a win built on the breakaways he set off on the second and third week. He was by far the overwhelming winner, with 135 points against the 51 of
Jonas Vingegaard.
Michael Storer finished third. Matteo Sobrero, Eduardo Sepúlveda and Jonas Vingegaard also worn the blue dots jersey at some point throughout the race.
Vuelta a Espana 2023 final KOM classification:

He is a GC rider and so has to eliminate his bad days. No matter how strong he is, if he loses 5-10 mins in a single stage, its game over. Also they need to find why the bad day happened.
Whatever Remco....maybe GC stage wins and mountain jerseys are what you are good for. Having one momentous bad day in any grand tour will be your poison going forward and always in your head.
