The heat wave that is spreading through Europe will be affecting southern France and the
Tour de France in the coming days as the race heads to the Pyrenees.
With the ambient temperatures reaching as high as 40 degrees according to current forecasts, today's stage into Carcassonne will be gruesome for the riders but talks of using the Extreme Weather Protocol are not yet in advanced stages.
The regional fire authorities will be using 10.000 litres of water to cool down the tarmac which should be in painfully high temperatures throughout the coming stages. Something which may trigger more protests either from activists or the riders themselves as racing in such severe heat will be to the dislike of many.
