- Congratulations, Afonso! Respect! Great bike riding, your mtb roots came in handy today! I won't say Bota Lume, but I'll say "Carrega, Figueira!!"
- Prioritizing the Tour de France over the Giro remains the industry standard. Aside from those rare years when heavy hitters attempt the trio, or the elusive Triple Crown, this hierarchy is the norm.
Jonas does not deserve to be described as ‘second team’ status, however. For the last 5 years, he’s been on the Tour podium, and won 2 of those. His riding style is different to what we’re used to with Tadej, I fully anticipate him to take the Pink jersey, with ease, in the mountains.
- If Caruso signs another year it'll be crazy
- A well deserved win!
- Now with his trainer going to Red Bull and Kellerman out...how long until Jonas uses one or both for poor performance? Today he rode like he was scared of something. I saw a few times his teammates were flicking the elbow to him (move up, take a short pull signal) and he stayed put. The top 3 riders (and some other top 10) are not garbage riders who got lucky. They are legit riders and they have a legitimate chance to stay ahead of Jonas with 7min and change on him already.
- He's had multiple other crashes too. Maybe just bad luck. But I have to wonder
- That was a crazy ending, multiple times over. The collective decision to allow such a large lead in the GC to people who won’t hold it long is interesting. Curious how long that will last
- That's got be the most deceiving click bait title that I've ever seen!
- I think Movistar is the best location for Jhonatan Narváez to move. With Iván Romeo, Carlos Canal, Pablo Castrillo, Orluis Aular and Iván Garcia Cortina, their punchy side is better than their climbing side. If they can get Héctor Álvarez off Lidl-Trek it would be the steal of the season. Tom Crabbe is a rider in a big tug of war and would be a great addition. Someone like Tommaso Dati would also be one too.
- No problem with being extra careful. Should Pellizzari (against all the odds) win the Giro on bonus seconds and Vingegaard didn't go for them, Visma will be kicking themselves. With the Red Bull KM, there are plenty of bonus seconds. Combined with bonus seconds at the finish a maximum of 2 minutes could realistically be brought back through that.
But Vingegaard is not as fast as Pellizzari, which is why Red Bull need to use the conservative Roglič tactic - wait for the sprint. That will also mean they're motivated to chase down breakaways so enough bonus seconds are on the line
